It's no secret that World of Warcraft has one of the largest in-game maps of any MMORPG out there. In a lot of ways, this is a great thing--it means a vast amount of fresh content for new players and old players alike. However, it can also be pretty difficult to gain your bearings at times when most of the most fun activities come with endgame content. And what's in-between you and exploring this content? 85 levels!
Most players start out dewy eyed at the intricacies of the quests they are subjected to for each level--but, at least for most players, this wears off pretty quickly. Whether you want to join some higher leveled friends or just want those endgame battlegrounds, leveling doesn't have to be frustrating. With a professionally crafted guide such as Zygor Guides, it can actually be really easy. No worries, though, because there are plenty of ways you can speed up your leveling without spending a dime!
Your first step in this process is to identify the things that you do every day that waste your time. Poor time management can lead to poor productivity in any area of life, and World of Warcraft is no exception.
While a lot of us really enjoy PvP, you can't actually level up by grinding out the levels on other players (if only!), so it's best practice to avoid chasing down members of the opposite faction while you're supposed to be leveling. Similarly, towns are a huge bubble of laziness that draws us in at the worst times. Hanging out at pubs and outside the Auction House with your guildmates does not help you reach 85 any quicker!
There are two major ways that you can actually increase your exp/monster with Zygor Guides. First and easiest is by using "rest EXP", which many players hear about and then totally forget. Basically, by logging off at an inn, you can come back to having a nice little bit of bonus EXP built up. The longer you stay at the inn, the bigger this is! I also learned while reading Zygor Guides about how to use heirloom artifacts that can also speed up your leveling significantly.
The second way is the most effective and fun--Blizzard's very own "Recruit-a-Friend" program. Basically, if you can convince a friend to sign up under you, this is THE way to level. For each monster that you kill with Zygor Guides, you get 3x the experience of a normal kill.
That means you (and your friend) level up to 300% faster! This is a huge, huge advantage. I would recommend picking complimentary classes when you decide to do a Recruit-a-Friend program with Zygor Guides, though, as you will be leveling with eachother for most of 1-70. If you managed to pair both you and a friend up with Zygor Guides and recruit-a-friend, it would be insane how fast you both leveled!
Even without Recruit-a-Friend and Zygor Guides, it's a good idea to party up with other players to get the job done faster. Though the EXP/kill is a bit smaller, you are killing things twice as quickly and have a huge decrease in downtime. In the end, as long as your partner is capable, your EXP/hour is usually much better than soloing.
One big time pit that I would like to recommend everyone avoiding is professions. If you have a main that can support your other toons, I recommend skipping professions altogether while leveling with Zygor Guides.
If you absolutely need the gold from a profession, I would suggest avoiding crafting professions and picking up a gathering profession instead. Crafting professions take much more care and time than a gathering profession, which can be leveled largely out on the field as you are traveling.
If you are looting, or gathering, you will eventually find your bags full and in need of a run to town--which can eat up a lot of travel time if you need to head back to an Auction House. For this reason, Zygor Guides suggests everyone have an Auction House alt.
An Auction House alt is basically a little banker toon that sits outside a neutral Auction House. It lives here and is destined to be forever neglected in terms of leveling--the sole purpose of this toon is to recieve mail and handle auctions.
Whenever your bags fill up, hit a mailbox and mail all of your loot back to this Auction House alt. They will handle all of your auctions and gold so that you don't have to make the long trip back every time you run out of bagspace (make sure you have the largest bags available to your toon!).
Finally, make sure you are questing with Zygor Guides and not grinding. While I understand players wanting to grind due to the brainlessness of it--don't! Questing is much faster and easier once you get the hang of it. Whenever you get to a new zone, start accepting quests. Have as many open as you like--you can always drop them later if you out level them. Group them by the area that you will have to complete them in--that way you don't miss any. This can be a bit hard to do if you don't know you way around, or don't have the Zygor Guides add-on, but you will quickly get the hang of it as long as you can be a little organized.
These tips don't sound like a lot, but sometimes it's the little things that make the most difference. By minimizing travel time and time "pits", it's easy to level your toons without distractions. You may not level as quickly as you might with a leveling guide, but it doesn't matter! At least you will be leveling faster than before.
